The Grind/The Dream | Lemonade 3 | Pastel Patisserie

One good thing about living in an apartment complex? The landlord.
Luckily, Canary doesn't have to try and fix the sparking circuit box on her own.

A rat?! If it's not one thing, it's another.

Canary has heard the age-old adage "they're more scared of you than you are of them," of course (how could she have not with Sage, nature lover and insect collector extraordinaire, as her mom?), but that doesn't mean she believes it.

With the help of a trap her landlord left and a little bit of peanut butter, Canary hopes to stop the pesky rodent in its tracks.

I just hope she doesn't notice it scurrying under her bed...

A moodlet dump because it's been a very long time since I've played in San Myshuno and I'm not sure if I've ever used a Needs TLC apartment so this is all new (and grossly exciting) to me.

Canary finally fell back asleep and hoped that the morning would bring a critter-free apartment. No such luck. The roaches have appeared!

Who knew spraying a bunch of roach-killing chemicals would make her so dirty? She thought moving to the city would get her away from the dust and grime.

After freshening up, Canary pays a visit to the wishing well in the Spice District. While she wouldn't tell me her wish word-for-word (superstition and all that), I'm sure it's something along the lines of "I wish to be successful and build a life for myself that does not include rats or bugs!"

Back home, it's time to tackle her science project for school. I think she's passing off taking selfies as "looking up instructions." You're not fooling anyone, Canary!

It's hard to make friends in a new city when you're doing online schooling, but Canary has ran into a few teens while exploring. While they might not think that living on her own in the big city is a huge flex, they still come over for a few movie nights.

It's a rainy weekend morning and Canary wants to treat herself to brunch. The hottest spot in town has a formal dress requirement and is kind of pricey, but she's been working hard and thinks it is worth the expense just this once.

She starts feeling a bit insecure once she arrives. The other diners are so fancy and clearly fit in, and she wonders if everyone is clocking her as a fake, with her floral dress suitable for the farm.

She gets in, though, and orders herself a delicious breakfast with the best cup of coffee she's ever had.

While eavesdropping isn't always the way to go, Canary can't help but overhear what the other diners are talking about: their jobs, their penthouse renovations, their nannies. She knows that money isn't everything and that she can find happiness without it, but she also recognizes the part of her that wants to create that financial comfort for her future family.

And, really, who doesn't love being able to afford a bunch of shiny new things?

Before heading home, she takes another look at the high rises she hopes to someday live in. It's dizzying and exciting and she feels kind of lightheaded thinking about how hard she'll have to work to get there. She's up for the challenge, though.

And then it's back home and Canary's vision of her ideal future is pushed aside as she deals with the next round of roaches. They just keep multiplying!

Once the nasty things are taken care of, it's time to hit the books. Doing her last year of high school online definitely isn't easy, and sometimes it's hard to keep focused and motivated when her mind wants to drift elsewhere, but she always pushes through and finishes.

And all of that hard work is paying off because, just like that, Canary is now sorting books instead of just ringing them up.

Paying off, sure, but not without a cost. Canary is going to have to figure out a way to let that stress out instead of letting it build up.

Anddddd no power. That's just the cherry on top, isn't it?

Eating in the dark isn't that bad, though. And, look at that, there's even a bit of a smile on Canary's face. She thinks that everything is going to work out okay in the end, and I'd have to say I agree with her.
